Quarter Pot
A tavern dice game for your table. Your players roll their real dice. This page rolls for the NPCs, so you can fill the table with gamblers who each play their own way.
How to play
- Everyone pays the same buy-in into the pot.
- Each player has one d12, one d10, one d8 and one d6.
- There are four rounds. Each round, roll any of your unused dice: one, several, all of them, or none.
- The highest total each round takes a quarter of the pot. Ties split it.
- Once a die has been used, you cannot use it again.
- Rolling no dice scores 0, and 0 never wins. If nobody rolls in a round, the house keeps that quarter.
NPC play styles
- Wildcard
- Every die goes in a random round. They might throw everything at once or dribble one out at a time. Impossible to read.
- Big Opener
- Always rolls the d12 in round 1, usually with the d10 alongside it, and sometimes the d8 or d6 too. Whatever is left is spread over the later rounds.
- Slow Burn
- Holds back early and saves most of their dice for rounds 3 and 4. Now and then loses their nerve and rolls one early.
- All In
- Throws all four dice in a single round, picked at random. Up to 36 in one go, but only one shot at it.
- Pairs
- Splits their dice into two pairs, a big die with a small one (d12 + d6 and d10 + d8, or d12 + d8 and d10 + d6), and rolls each pair in a different round.
- Steady Hand
- Rolls exactly one die every round, in a random order. Never a huge score, but always has something to throw.
Buy-in
Pot: 50 gp, so 12.50 gp a round.
